The Savitribai Phule Scholarship provides financial aid to VJNT, SBC, and SC girls in grades 5-10. Headmasters manage the application process directly.

The Savitribai Phule Scholarship is a government initiative in Maharashtra designed to support girl students from specific communities, including Vimukta Jati Nomadic Tribes (VJNT), Special Backward Classes (SBC), and Scheduled Castes (SC). Administered by the Department of Social Justice and Special Assistance, this scheme targets girls enrolled in grades 5 through 10.

Objectives of the Scheme

The primary goal of the Savitribai Phule Scholarship is to boost school enrollment and retention among girls from VJNT and SBC backgrounds. Originally, the program covered students in standard 5th to 7th. However, starting from the 2003-04 academic year, the government expanded the coverage to include girls in standard 8th to 10th.

This financial aid is crucial for families with limited income, ensuring that girls from these reserved categories can continue their schooling without financial barriers.

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • The student must be a girl belonging to the VJNT or SBC category.
  • She must be currently enrolled in classes 5th through 10th at a recognized school.

  • Class 8 to 10: Eligible girls receive INR 100 per month.

The application process is entirely paperless for the beneficiaries. Students or parents do not need to submit individual applications. Instead, the responsibility lies with the school administration:

  • For Classes 8 to 10: The Headmaster sends the list of eligible students to the district’s Assistant Commissioner of Social Welfare for sanctioning.

To facilitate the grant, the school authority must submit the following documents to the relevant government officers:
